One killed, another injured after shots fired at Dallas tire shop

One person was killed and another was in critical condition Thursday after a shooting outside an east Dallas business.

DALLAS – A man asked to use a tire shop's air machine before he fired shots at people outside the East Dallas business Thursday afternoon, according to an arrest affidavit.

One person was killed and another critically injured at Omar's Wheels & Tires, located in the 3700 block of South Buckner Boulevard near Military Parkway.

According to police, witnesses say Anthony Torres, 30, approached employees at the business at about 3:42 p.m. and asked for a specific employee and to use their air to fill up his tires. Police say Torres was told the employee wasn't at the shop, but that he could use their air.

"The suspect turned around and walked toward his vehicle," the arrest warrant reads. "Once arriving at his vehicle, the suspect then pulled out a firearm from his waistline and started shooting in the direction of all the witnesses that were standing in front of the business."

Police say an armed employee fired shots back.

Enrique Garcia-Mendoza, 25, was fatally wounded as he sat in the back of a vehicle parked in front of the business. Another person is listed in critical condition after he was transported to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Others at the scene suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Police say authorities located Torres at Baylor Hospital, where he drove himself with gunshot wounds. Authorities say they were able to locate his vehicle at the hospital based on witnesses' descriptions and found a weapon inside.

According to the arrest warrant, Torres claims he became involved in the gunfight after a verbal argument with a person he says pulled out a gun first.

Torres' bond has been set at $500,000.
