DALLAS — A multi-agency North Texas task force announced the completion of its second annual Operation Janus, which resulted in the arrest of 47 people charged with various sex crimes against children.
The North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force aimed the operation at rescuing children in the region who are victims of online sexual exploitation, bringing together computer crimes investigators from Jan. 15 to Feb. 2. They dedicated their days looking for child victims and arresting suspects charged with trafficking illegal images and videos of minors forced into sexual acts.
Police say 13 children were rescued from sexual abuse through the operation, with more than 90 charges filed against the 47 suspects arrested. Terabytes of data and electronic devices used in these crimes were also seized, and are being examined to potentially lead to other suspects being charged.
The task force included members of the Dallas Police Department, the FBI Dallas Division's Child Exploitation Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations -- Dallas, and dozens of local police departments around North Texas.
