19-year-old faces manslaughter charge in 15-year-old's shooting death in Lewisville, officials say

The shooting happened in the parking lot behind a Valvoline oil change shop and a Popeyes fast food restaurant, according to Lewisville police.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — A 15-year-old boy has died and a 19-year-old has been arrested after a shooting that happened between a group of males in two vehicles on Thursday, officials said.

The Lewisville Police Department told WFAA its officers responded at approximately 2 p.m. to the 200 block of E. Round Grove Road

The shooting happened in the parking lot behind a Valvoline oil change shop and a Popeyes fast food restaurant, according to Lewisville police.

According to police, Lamarcus Dewayne Winn, 15, and Jesstun Markee Conner, 19, drove to the parking lot in a Porsche to buy marijuana from another person.

A group of men showed up in what police described as a Chrysler model vehicle. Shortly after the arrival, people from both vehicles started shooting at each other.

Police say Conner got out of the Porsche and was eventually shot in his hand. After being shot, he tried to get back in the Porsche when he ran into Winn, who was ducking behind a backseat door. When Conner bumped into Winn, police say Conner's gun fired a bullet, hitting Winn in the chest.

Both cars left the scene, police said.

The Porsche was found just to the west of that location in the Bridges of Oakbend Apartment complex, located at 195 E. Round Grove Road. Winn was found dead in the vehicle.

Police say Conner got Winn into the Porsche, then called 911 after the vehicle made it to the complex.

Conner was taken to Medical City Lewisville hospital for his gunshot wound. After further investigation, police say Conner was arrested after he was released from the hospital.

"Conner is charged with Manslaughter because this appears to be an accidental shooting of Winn," police said in the news release.

Winn was a Lewisville resident but did not attend a Lewisville ISD school, city officials said Friday.

Lewisville PD said it is still looking for the Chrysler vehicle. Police did not have a confirmation of model type as of Thursday afternoon. It is also unknown whether or not the person or people in that second vehicle suffered any injuries, police said.

The motive of the shooting was unknown, according to officials.

Lewisville PD said there was no threat to the community because it appears the group of men were acquaintances.
