1 dead, 1 hospitalized in Garland apartment shooting, police say

GARLAND, Texas — One person has died and another was injured in an apartment shooting in Garland, police said.

The Garland Police Department said officers responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday to an apartment in the 3500 block of Easton Meadows Drive in regards to a disturbance with a weapon. When officers got there, they found two people inside the apartment with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where one later died and the other remained hospitalized as of Saturday morning.

The deceased victim was identified by the Medical Examiner as 20-year-old Treton Butler.

Garland police said its initial investigation revealed that "the suspect(s) were known the victim, but detectives were working to identify and locate those responsible for the shooting."

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
