'I'll shoot you, bro!': Fort Worth police release video of officer shooting suspect

An officer shot the suspect after responding to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex last Saturday, police said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department released video of an officer shooting a suspect during a chase last Saturday.

Police had been called initially to respond to a domestic disturbance call at about 12:24 p.m. in the 4900 block of Rutland Avenue.

In the footage provided, both from a security camera and from a responding officer's body camera, an officer can be heard shouting at the suspect as he is running away from the officer.

"Hey, get your hands out of your pockets!" the officer yelled at the suspect. "I'll shoot you, bro!"

A taser was deployed to knock the suspect down, but police said it was ineffective. Police said the suspect then pulled a gun out and pointed it at the officer, causing the officer to shoot his gun at the suspect.

In the footage released, the suspect can be seen falling down and the officer shoots him. It can't be seen whether the suspect was in fact pointing a gun at the officer. But footage does show the suspect throwing what appears to be a gun away after he is shot, and the footage includes a photo of a gun on the ground at the scene of the incident.

The body camera footage released was not of the officer who shot the suspect, but from the officer assisting him behind.

Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect, Noakes said, who was then taken to the hospital. He is said to be in stable condition at this time.

Police said the suspect was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - family member, and aggravated assault against a public servant.

Noakes said a handgun was located on scene in the immediate area of the suspect. Police will be investigating whether the gun was pointed at officers.

Noakes said the taser deployment will be investigated to determine the cause.

Details of the call, Noakes said, include the sister of the victim saying her brother was threatening her with a firearm, and that responding officers were aware they may encounter a gun.

Four case detectives, four internal affairs detectives and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office responded to the scene and will be conducting an investigation.
