PARKER COUNTY, Texas — A man is hospitalized after being shot by Parker County deputies who were serving a warrant for his arrest in late January, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they arrived in the 300 block of Lipan Trail in southern Parker County at about 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 to serve a warrant on a man, later identified as Gary Evans.

A police report obtained by WFAA on Feb. 13 stated Evans was standing next to a gold passenger vehicle, then walked in front of the vehicle, out of view of officers. Evans stepped out from the front of the vehicle, produced a handgun and began shooting at deputies shortly after they approached, the report said.

Three deputies returned fire, striking Evans multiple times, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies rendered aid to Evans, including applying tourniquets, and Evans was flown by air ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital in critical condition, officials say.

A deputy was also cleared by medical personnel at a local hospital after an examination after the incident showed the deputy had a bullet strike in one of the handgun magazines on a belt, according to the sheriff’s office.

Evans faces a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon, according to deputies.
