Man shot and killed in southern Dallas on New Year's Day has been identified

Police said the shooting happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. on New Years Day.

DALLAS — A man was found shot near Texas Buckeye Trail in southern Dallas on New Year's Day, police said.

The Dallas Police Department said officers responded at approximately 9:30 a.m. on New Years Day to the 6900 block of Bexar Street for a service call. When officers got there, they found a man shot, and he died at the scene, DPD said. Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene.

On Jan. 12 the victim was identified by the medical examiner as 25-year-old Jose Chacon-Navarrete.
