16-year-old facing capital murder charges after fatal shooting in South Dallas, police say

A 15-year-old is dead after being shot at a house on Southland Street in Dallas.

DALLAS — A teenager is dead after he was found shot in Dallas Tuesday morning, according to Dallas police.

Police responded to a shooting call in the 2500 block of Southland Street at about 10:45 a.m. Sources said one person went into the house looking for a minor. A fight started, and that individual was shot in the leg.

The argument then continued into the backyard, according to police sources, and that's when a 15-year-old was shot and killed.

Police said he was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injury. The medical examiner identified the victim as Huerta Moises Gonzalez.

CC Lockett witnessed the shooting. She was looking out the window when it happened.

"Like 20 shots," said Lockett. "Never seen anything like that in forty years. I've seen a lot of stuff, and I ain't never seen nothing like that, not in close range with kids."

Sources tell WFAA they believe this was a gang-related shooting.

Dallas PD identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male, who was also shot in the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody and treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The teen will be charged with capital murder.

Police say the suspect’s name is not being released because they are a minor.
