Dallas Lyft driver found dead, 19-year-old suspect charged with Capital Murder

The 78-year-old driver was found shot dead in a parking lot in the 9500 block of Forest Lane.

DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department has charged a 19-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Lyft driver who was found shot dead early Saturday morning in Forest Meadow.

Police were called at about 3:55 a.m. Saturday to the 9500 block of Forest Lane, officials said, where they found 78-year-old Mohammad Taghi-Farshi shot dead in the parking lot at the location.

The vehicle Taghi-Farshi was driving was a Lyft rental through Flexdrive Services LLC, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by WFAA. The affidavit also said the police department received an email naming Maurice Parker as the last passenger Taghi-Farshi gave a ride. The drop-off location for the ride was where police found Taghi-Farshi's body.

On Monday, Dallas Police charged Parker with Capital Murder. Parker was in the Dallas County Jail on an unrelated charge.

When authorities questioned Parker about the incident he admitted to shooting Taghi-Farshi on March 30, according to the affidavit. He was also in possession of the victim's wallet when officers arested him. Parker's confession also led police to find Taghi-Farshi's vehicle in the 12000 block of Abrams Road in Dallas.

A Lyft spokesperson said in a statement to WFAA that they banned the rider's account and are prepared to assist with the investigation into the incident if necessary.

"Our hearts are with Mr. Taghi-Farshi’s loved ones as they confront this unspeakable tragedy, and we have reached out to offer our support during this difficult time," a Lyft spokesperson said. "We stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation and have permanently banned the rider’s account from the Lyft community."

Parker's bond amount was set at $5 million.
