ARLINGTON, Texas — A 12-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a bullet while watching fireworks to ring the New Year, the Arlington Police Department (APD) announced Tuesday.

APD says officers were called to the 200 block of Robert Circle around 12:20 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the 12-year-old who’d been hit by a bullet. His family told officers that they were outside watching fireworks that were going off near their home when the boy “started complaining that something had hit him."

The boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. APD said it is believed that the 12-year-old has been treated and released.

APD said it’s unclear where the gunshot came from and at this time, the incident is under investigation.
