DALLAS – The grand opening of a new restaurant in South Oak Cliff is drawing large crowds and a big buzz that many neighbors hope will attract more positive development in that area.

Cars are packing the streets trying to get into the new Raising Cane’s restaurant on South Hampton near Wheatland Road. The lines are so long, and the streets are so congested, officers were called in for crowd control.

Long-time Oak Cliff residents call the congestion the restaurant is bringing to the area a good problem.

“We are hungry for new development,” said neighbor Anga Sanders.

Raising Cane’s, which is popular for its chicken tender dishes, was a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Residents say the business replaces a predatory loan establishment which several local churches worked hard to remove from the community.

“We have money to spend over here,” said Sanders. She wants the excitement over the new business to be a note to developers that investing in Southern Dallas is a positive move.

Raising Cane’s says it is bringing 50 to 60 new jobs to the area. The restaurant is located at 8112 S. Hampton Road.
