Texas Health Hospitals share first photos of North Texas Leap Day babies

Those born on Leap Day only get to celebrate their actual birthday once every four years.

DALLAS — Being born on Leap Day is one of the rarest birthdays a person can have, with roughly a one in 1,460 chance of entering the world on Feb. 29.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano welcomed their first leap year baby during the early morning hours of Thursday. Overjoyed parents say they their baby girl, Alaia was born at 1:21 a.m. weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 19 inches long.

Another baby girl was born in Fort Worth at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest. Bryer was born at 4:59 a.m. weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches long.

Baby boy Dalton was welcomed into the world at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He was born at 5:19 a.m. weighing 5 pounds, 3.3 ounces and measuring 18.5 inches long.

Those born on Leap Day only get to celebrate their actual birthday once every four years.

Someone born on a Leap Day typically will celebrate their birthday on Feb. 28 or March 1, but Feb. 29 is still used for identification and important documents, 

Leap Day babies are so rare that they make up less than 0.1% of the world’s population, according to Brown & Toland Physicians.
