Workplace engagement rings, collective weddings, and a 'VD mobile': How DFW celebrated Valentine's Day over the decades

A variety of love stories will air in a WFAA+ Valentine's Day special.

DALLAS — As couples (and perhaps singles, as well) plan their Valentine’s Day celebrations, history has shown there are bountiful different gestures or activities to help spread the love.

We dug into the WFAA Vault and found a variety of unique and quirky ways people were spreading love on Valentine’s Day of yesteryears.

Like a man in the 1970s using a plane to propose to his girlfriend or the woman in the 1980s buying an ad in the newspaper to send a message to her fiancé.

Or a 75-year-old man in the 1990s handed out “engagement” rings to all the women in his workplace because he felt the holiday of love should be all about fun and laughs.

Love stories ranging from the wacky to the sweet to the inspiring will air Wednesday night in a Valentine’s Day Special on WFAA+. To watch, go to the App Store on your Roku, Amazon Fire or Apple TV device and search WFAA and download the WFAA+ App.
