As the weather warms up, it's a good reminder for everyone to be safe when spending the day in the water.

Drowning is the leading causes of death for children ages 1 to 4, and the second leading cause of death for kids ages 5 to 14.

In 2017, nearly 1,000 kids drowned; most of them slipped away from adults for just seconds.

Babies and toddlers can drown in a bathtub, ponds, lakes, toilets -- even buckets.

The American Academy of Pediatrics just released a new policy on drowning prevention in April. The organization mentioned 4-sided fencing, designating supervision, using life jackets in natural water and teaching kids how to survive in the water.

Swimming lessons are more than just training, but also of learning about proper swim clothes, practicing self-rescue when falling in.
