Austin native Glen Powell inducted into Texas Film Hall of Fame

Powell is known for his work in "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Anyone But You." He has two films coming out this summer: "Hit Man" and "Twisters."

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin native Glen Powell has been inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame.

On May 15, the Austin Film Society (AFS) inducted the actor, producer and screenwriter during the Netflix premiere of his new film, "Hit Man," held at the Paramount Theatre.

"It’s an honor to be part of inducting a fellow Austinite, my friend and collaborator Glen Powell, into the Texas Film Hall of Fame,” filmmaker Richard Linklater, the founder and artistic director of AFS, said in a March press release. "The Texas Film Hall of Fame acknowledges Texans who have had a lasting impact on film culture, and Glen has already achieved this milestone."

Powell, 35, was born and raised in Austin and has worked with Linklater throughout his career, first on "Fast Food Nation," then on "Everybody Wants Some!!," "Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood" and now on "Hit Man," which he produced and co-wrote with Linklater. Powell is known for his work in "Top Gun: Maverick," "Anyone But You" and "Set It Up."

In addition to "Hit Man," he will also appear in "Twisters" this summer, in theaters July 19.

Previous inductees to the Texas Film Hall of Fame have included Sissy Spacek, Ethan Hawke, Farrah Fawcett, Jesse Plemons and Powell's fellow Texas Longhorns fan, Matthew McConaughey.
