Brittani Moncrease is an Emmy-nominated reporter at WFAA in Dallas, TX covering Southern Dallas County.

1) Who are you?  “Chatty Cathy.” That’s what my mother used to call me. My talkative nature not only prevented me from getting “excellent” in behavior in school, but it sparked the curiosity of wanting to know more. I’ve always been interested in a wide range of topics. Journalism gave me the opportunity to not only explore those topics but also to learn. It is the one career where you’re actually immersed in the community and experience what is soon to be history. I live in it in each story I tell.

I was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in both Detroit and the city’s suburb of Southfield. I earned my master’s degree in public policy and bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism at the illustrious Howard University in Washington, D.C. Go Bison!

Prior to working at WFAA, I was a Reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC24 in Memphis. I’ve also worked at Spectrum News in Binghamton and Syracuse, NY and CBS3 in Philadelphia, PA. In 2022, I was nominated for a Mid-South Emmy. I also received the Champion for Change Award in 2021 from the Grandmother of Juneteenth, Ms. Opal Lee, after my coverage of Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex’s conditions during COVID-19 which led to the release of an inmate serving a 20-year sentence. In 2019, I was a guest on the Dr. Phil Show after covering the 2004 kidnapping of then 5-year-old Brittany Fish.

2) What are your interests?

I love spending time with my soon-to-be husband. We brought in the 2023 New Year by getting engaged! I love going out and about with family and friends. I am the queen of binge-watching TV shows and movies. Also, I like traveling and am a fan of a good road trip. My goal is to visit all 50 states and travel to six of the seven continents (I’m not crazy about visiting Antarctica).

3) What do you like about working at WFAA? WFAA is a family. That family doesn’t just stay within the walls of 606 Young Street but expands out into the community. We live in the community we serve. That’s what makes WFAA so unique. That is why I love covering Southern Dallas County. The community is so vibrant and rich with history and culture.

4) What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you? One surprising thing about me is my family (aunt, brother and nephew) have been conducting research on the history of Black Medical Schools in the United States. We’ve published a pamphlet, presented at national conferences and universities. I also like to remix songs for fun and make videos!
