Food delivery driver shot 5 times in northeast Dallas

Police on the scene said the driver was delivering food when a fight broke out over the customer's order.

DALLAS — Updated Monday with information on the suspect.

A food delivery driver was shot multiple times after an altercation with a customer early Monday in northeast Dallas.

The driver was delivering food around 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of Ridgecrest Road and Park Lane when the fight broke out over the customer's order, Dallas police said.

The customer shot the delivery driver five times. The victim was transported to the hospital but is expected to be OK, officers said.

The suspect, identified Monday as Travis Jahns, stayed on scene until officers arrived and is now in custody, police said. He was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge and is now in Dallas County jail being held on $35,000 bail.

"I just heard five or six really loud banging noises," said Paul Hudson, who heard the shooting and was staying in another apartment in the building.

"I just got back from a deployment, and I hadn't experienced gunfire anywhere over there," Hudson said. "Who would think I would get back to the U.S. and this is where I have someone getting shot where I decide to live."

In a statement to WFAA, Doordash said they take safety seriously and are assisting authorities:

"We have reached out to the Dasher to offer our support during his recovery and our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.  In addition, we immediately deactivated the customer from our platform and are working with local law enforcement to help support their investigation of this horrific crime."
