Explosion at a Carrollton home injures one, officials say

Crews responded to the home in the 1800 block of Highland Drive shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday and say they extinguished a small fire found after the explosion.

CARROLLTON, Texas — One person was injured in an explosion at a Carrollton home early Saturday, according to Carrollton Fire Rescue.

Crews responded to the home in the 1800 block of Highland Drive shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday and say they extinguished a small fire found in the home after the explosion.

One person from the home was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported, Carrollton Fire Rescue says.

Fire Marshall investigators discovered an underground gas leak in one of the bathrooms, which caused the explosion when someone lit a cigarette, according to Carrollton FD Chief Michael Thomson.

The department says the leak was isolated. The investigation is being led by Atmos Energy and the Fire Marshal’s Office.

"Earlier today, Atmos Energy’s highly trained technicians responded to a call near 1800 Highland Drive in Carrollton at the request of Carrollton Fire Rescue. A precautionary evacuation has been lifted," Atmos said in a statement. "Atmos Energy technicians remain on scene as we work to restore service."
