Elderly Parker County woman saved from house fire during Tuesday night storms

"It's killing me...I can't breathe...it's hot in here," the woman said to a 911 dispatcher

TEXAS, USA — An elderly woman who uses a wheelchair is safe after Parker County Sheriff’s deputies and LaJunta firefighters rescued her from a house fire Tuesday night.

"It's killing me...I can't breathe...it's hot in here," the woman said to a 911 dispatcher as first responders arrived to her house around 9 p.m. Fire was blocking the back door of the house, prohibiting her from getting out.

The dispatcher was able to keep the woman on the phone and relay her location to first responders before they got there, according to Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler.

“We are relieved no one was injured in this house fire,” Fowler said. “The deputies, firefighters and dispatcher did a wonderful job in saving this woman from serious harm.”

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated. Her condition is unknown at this time.
