Decatur man dead after experiencing 'medical event' after a traffic stop in Granbury, police say

Police say they stopped the vehicle in the 2200 block of Old Granbury Road early Friday and called an ambulance after the driver began experiencing a medical event.

GRANBURY, Texas — A Decatur man died at Lake Granbury Medical Center after police say he experienced what was believed to be a "medical event" as police were questioning him during a traffic stop early Friday.

Granbury police say they stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2200 block of Old Granbury Road just before 2 a.m. Friday.

Police say the 35-year-old driver tried to walk away from police and as a result, he was temporarily detained in handcuffs. Shortly after he began experiencing “what was believed to be some type of medical event.”

Officers called an ambulance, and the driver was taken to Lake Granbury Medical Center, where he later died, police say.

Granbury police and the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
