Atmos orders evacuation of Dallas Fire-Rescue station

Atmos officials ordered the evacuation of a Dallas Fire-Rescue station Tuesday, as it continues to respond to gas line issues in the wake of three incidents.

Atmos officials ordered the evacuation of a Dallas Fire-Rescue station Tuesday, as it continues to respond to gas line issues in the wake of three incidents.

DFR officials tell News 8 that Atmos crews were working in front of Station 43, on Lombardy Lane, when they detected a gas leak in the line leading into the fire station.

Atmos then told fire crews they needed to leave, officials tell WFAA.

For its part, DFR has moved the truck and engine to station 35, and is moving its ambulance to station 42. Other stations will cover the service area normally handled by station 43.

Atmos has struggled for nearly a week to get a handle on gas line issues in the area. As of Tuesday, nearly 300 people remain out of their homes due to an evacuation order.

The order was given after an explosion destroyed a home and killed a girl on Friday, February 23.

And in the days before that explosion, there was an explosion at another home, and a fire at a third home. All three homes are close to each other.

Officials have not said when the firefighters will be able to return to the station at this time.
