Lancaster police traffic stop leads to Officer Involved Shooting

One man is dead, a Lancaster Police officer injured, after a traffic stop, that led to an Officer Involved Shooting.

On Sunday evening Lancaster Police were conducting a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Dewberry Blvd. A driver was stopped and officers had made contact when the driver placed the vehicle in reverse and drove toward the officers.

Officers were able to move out of the way and ordered the driver to stop.

The driver then placed the vehicle in drive and accelerated toward one of the officers, who was struck and drug by the vehicle.

The officer fired shots at the vehicle, striking the driver.

As the driver was attempting to flee the scene, he lost control and struck a power pole.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The officer who was struck by the vehicle sustained injuries, but is reported to be in stable condition at this time.

Officials are not releasing the names of the officers involved or the driver at this time.

The Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers are assisting with this ongoing investigation.
