FedEx driver killed after semi-truck plunges off bridge on I-45 in Dallas

The wreck happened about 2:40 a.m. near the Overton Road exit on I-45.

The driver of a FedEx semi-truck died early Saturday in southern Dallas after his truck and trailer plunged off a bridge on Interstate 45, police said.

The wreck happened about 2:40 a.m. near the Overton Road exit on I-45.

The driver, Quantico Smith, 30, was hauling a double-trailer south on I-45 when he collided with a Honda Accord that had crashed into another vehicle on the highway, police said. The FedEx driver lost control and veered to hte left, jumping over a barrier wall on the highway and falling to the ground.

The FedEx truck exploded, killing the driver, police said.

The driver of the Honda Accord had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the initial collision with a Chevrolet Malibu, police said. Police gave the driver a field sobriety test but determined that the driver was not intoxicated.

A front passenger in the Honda was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.
