Forecasts, closures, resources: What to know as Hurricane Laura approaches the Gulf Coast

The storm is expected to make landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday. Here are resources to track how it's affecting different areas.

Hurricane Laura continued to build intensity as it approached the Texas-Lousiana border. Gov. Greg Abbott has warned that residents should prepare for a strong storm.

Hurricane Laura could make landfall as a Category 4 hurricane, which it was upgraded to on Wednesday afternoon. Abbott said Laura might be similar to past storms such as Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Rita, but is not likely to be a replication of Hurricane Harvey.

Here's a look at how Laura might impact different parts of the state, and the latest information for those areas.
