Give yourself some extra time Monday morning as you head out the door.

Thick fog is plaguing North Texas with visibilities reduced to less than ¼ mile at times.

A Dense Fog Advisory for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Bosque, Hill, Navarro and McLennan counties is in effect through 11 AM.

The I-35 corridor is seeing the worst of the fog. The farther west and east you go from I-35, the better the conditions get.  Also, some locations have seen temperatures drop below freezing, which is causing freezing fog.  There could be some slick spots from this, but widespread problems are not expected.

The fog has developed because of the clear skies and calm winds we saw overnight.  When there are clouds overnight, it acts as a blanket to keep the radiation at the surface from the previous afternoon.

When you have clear skies, there is nothing to trap the heat and temperatures rapidly fall.  This is what happened overnight, allowing many locations to see their temperatures drop to the dew point. That causes fog to develop.

If driving, slow down and make sure to use your low beam headlights, even during the daylight hours.  Also, leave plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you.
