Hot weather will continue to blanket the Dallas-Fort Worth area this week with high temperatures Monday reaching the upper 90s.
Tuesday will be particularly hot, with a heat index of 104 degrees.
Part of the high index is caused by the humidity.
There is a lot of moisture in the air right now, so this will cause our dew point temperatures to be in the lower 70s. The dew point is the measure of moisture in the air and when the dew point temperature is higher, the more moisture is in the air.
The more moisture in the air, the heavier it will feel when you are out either working in it or enjoying your day. This humidity combined with extreme heat can cause dangerous conditions for children, older adults, outside workers and pets to be vulnerable.
Make sure you are checking on your neighbors and people you work with, especially those who work at construction sites or those living in a house with little to no air conditioning.
Also, make sure you double check your backseat when you get out of the car. Temperatures can climb to dangerous levels within minutes.
If you are going to be outside make sure to wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing.
