Winter Weather Advisory extended until noon due to light freezing drizzle

A Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until noon.

Dozens of crashes in Dallas and Fort Worth were reported earlier Thursday morning as below freezing temperatures and drizzle are making for tricky driving conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory ended at noon Thursday for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Hood. Johnson, Rockwall, Tarrant, Parker, Somervell counties.

Fort Worth Fire Department said they have responded to more than 30 crashes since 4 a.m.

According to MedStar, crews have responded to at least 40 crashes on highways including 10 rollovers crashes as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Arlington police posted a tweet they received reports of 18 minor and major crashes: "Please watch those bridges and our first responders out helping those in crashes."

Light freezing drizzle/mist this morning will give way to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. Temperatures will remain very chilly with highs only in the mid-upper 40s. It's not as cold tonight with lows dipping into the upper 30's then a slight warm up Friday and Saturday with highs in the mid-upper 50s.

TODAY: Light freezing drizzle and mist during the morning. Becoming mostly cloudy this afternoon. Winds: NW 5-10. High: 46.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and not as cold. Winds: Light E. Low: 40.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy skies and a little warmer. Winds SE 5-10. High 54.

Scattered showers expected on Saturday before more Arctic air arrives. Widespread rain and maybe a few storms are possible Saturday night into Sunday. As colder air moves in, there could be a brief change over to sleet/freezing rain, mainly northwest of Dallas/Fort Worth. Precipitation ends early and highs on Sunday will be in the low 40s.

Looking ahead to this weekend and first full week of March, the likelihood of well-below normal temperatures is very high (normal high temperatures this time of the year are in the low- to mid-60s).

We expect multiple freezes, highs in the 30s and 40s, and even a low chance of wintry precipitation north of the metroplex. Low temperatures well below freezing are also in the forecast several days next week.
