Police have shutdown TX-114 near Highway 161 following a deadly crash.

A driver was killed when a car hit a barrier Tuesday afternoon on John W. Carpenter Freeway near the President George Bush Turnpike in Irving, police said.

A spokesperson with Irving police said the driver involved in the crash was the only person inside the car.

The car hit a barrier between the far left lane of John W. Carpenter Freeway and the HOV lane. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police haven't released the name of the driver.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway were shut down throughout much of the afternoon but were reopened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
