Good Samaritan pulls two people from fiery crash involving two 18-wheelers in Garland

The crash happened Tuesday morning on westbound I-30 in Garland. One of the people pulled from the crash died from their injuries.

DALLAS COUNTY, Texas — A good Samaritan pulled two people from a fiery crash involving two 18-wheelers in Garland on Tuesday. One of the people pulled died from their injuries.

The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 30, near Zion Road. Two tractor trailers collided and burst into flames.

Further information on the crash and the victims were not immediately released.

Good Samaritan Jesse Wilkerson was driving to East Texas to go hunting when he saw the crash happen around 4:30 a.m.

"I didn't see what caused it, but I saw the accident happen," Wilkerson said. "And I realized I was the only person there at the moment. I jumped out, and I realized the driver had his head and hands out of the window. The whole cab of the truck was just smashed."

Wilkerson said he was able to help the driver get free and pull him over to the concrete barrier in the center when the driver told him there was another person sleeping in the back of the truck.

Wilkerson said he pulled the second man out of the window, but that his leg was broken.

"I just used what I could, the strength that I had and reached underneath him and picked him up over my shoulders and carried him to the other lane and put him next to his buddy," Wilkerson said. "By this time, I could see his leg was severely broken."

Police showed up shortly after this. Wilkerson said this all took place in about two minutes.

"I just knew these guys were in trouble, and if nobody's there...they needed help," Wilkerson said. "At a time like that, you've got to decide if someone's life is worth taking a risk for and I believe it is so."
