Daniel Romanchuck beats AJC Peachtree Road Race Record men's wheelchair record with epic finish

Breaking records and winning money!

ATLANTA -- Men's elite wheelchair division racer Daniel Romanchuk broke the AJC Peachtree Road Race record.

He finished the race with the official time of 18:11, which is 27  seconds faster than the record set by Saul Mendoza of Mexico in 2004. Mendoza's record was 18:38.

Romanchuck also broke his personal record of 18:40. This is his fourth Peachtree.

Because the Peachtree is celebrating its 50th, the Atlanta Track Club is awarding a $50,000 bonus to anyone who breaks a course record. That amount is unheard of in the running world.

The elite women's wheelchair race also had a record broken a record with 21:28 by Manuela Schar of Switzerland.

She broke the 22:09 record set by Edith Hunkeler in 2009.
