Wounded Dallas police officer released from hospital rehab

Crystal Almeida, 26, and officer Rogelio Santander were shot on April 24 while responding to a Home Depot store, where an off-duty officer was trying to arrest a suspect. Santander died the next day.

Dallas police officer Crystal Almeida – who was wounded in the shooting at a Home Depot store last month that left another officer dead – was released from the rehabilitation unit at Baylor University Medical Center on Saturday, according to the Dallas Police Association.

Almeida, 26, is now recovering at home, DPA president Mike Mata said.

Her and officer Rogelio Santander were shot on April 24 while responding to the store, where an off-duty officer was trying to arrest a suspect.

Santander, 27, died the next day.

Scott Painter, a loss prevention officer at the store, was also shot and has been released from the hospital.

Armando Juarez, 29, was arrested in the shooting and has been charged with capital murder, three counts of aggravated assault of a public servant, aggravated assault in retaliation, and theft of property up to $32,000.
