FORT WORTH, Texas -- Two teenage boys, 14 and 13, are accused of fatally shooting a mother who fought them after they broke into her family's apartment in west Fort Worth, police said Tuesday.

The teens were detained Sunday, police said.

At a detention hearing Monday, the boys were ordered to remain in custody at the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Facility.

They face charges of delinquent conduct/capital murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Yesenia Gutierrez Friday afternoon at the Manitoba Apartments.

As of Tuesday, police had not released any details about the killing other than a brief description on Sunday.

Family members have said Gutierrez was home alone Friday with her 3-year-old son in the family's west Fort Worth apartment.

Just after noon, burglars broke into the apartment and Gutierrez fought with one to keep him from entering the room where her young son was sleeping, a cousin said.

Minutes later, she was killed when one of the burglars opened fire, the relative said.

"She fought hard to keep the burglars from entering the room," Imelda Sanchez wrote on a GoFundMe account established for her cousin. "She was a brave dedicated mother of 3 boys and a daughter."
