DALLAS — The man who was fatally shot by a security guard at a Dallas apartment complex on Sunday was unarmed and naked, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The security guard, Vincent Hobbs, 32, was arrested on a murder charge in the killing of Christopher Laroy Willard.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Sunday at the Oasis Apartment Homes in the 2700 block of East Ledbetter Drive, in Oak Cliff.

A female security guard had gone to an apartment, where she got into an altercation with Willard, the affidavit said. After the guard was punched in the face, Hobbs – the owner of North Texas Strike Force security – and another security guard went to the apartment, knocked and kicked on the door, and went inside.

Willard answered the door naked, the affidavit said, and then "became uncooperative, causing [one security guard] and Hobbs to retreat out of the apartment."

Willard came outside "holding a thick wooden stick" and he and the security guards started to fight, the affidavit said.

When the security guards tried to handcuff Willard, he was still uncooperative and started running toward Hobbs.

Hobbs then shot Willard, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, the affidavit said. Willard was unarmed when he was shot, the affidavit said.
