U.S., British veterans join forces in walk for the wounded

One step at a time. It's advice that has very literally helped Marine Veteran Larry Hinkle.

Dallas — One step at a time. It's advice that has very literally helped Marine Veteran Larry Hinkle.

"We're walking for those veterans that are in those dark places I used to be," Hinkle said. "Somebody shed a little light on me and showed me that there is another part of life."

We first met Hinkle last year. He walked across Texas, 2,700 miles, meeting service men and women at every turn. This year, he's back on the road and has reinforcements from across the pond.

"I think there's always been a special bond between the US and the UK and for me personally I was very proud to stand behind Americans in Afghanistan," said Matt Fisher a veteran of the British Army.

"That's why the guys on the team here they're all the same we all like a bit of adventure and we all like to be part of a team," Fisher said.

Today their mission takes them overseas. It's part of a 14-week hike that today passes right through Dallas.

"We fight so well together in combat as allies we might as well heal together in the process afterwords," Hinkle said.

A healing process that can take a toll on a solider no matter what flag they're carrying.

"Even post conflict many of those injuries such as PTSD and service related anxiety and depression continue to manifest themselves years and years later," Fisher said.

With each step they take they hope to raise funds to treat veterans with both visable and invisable wounds.

"I'm walking for all my buddies that have commited suicide -- I'm walking for first seargent smith that was killed in Iraq with us when we were deployed," Hinkle said.

Hinkle walks alongside his fellow soldier -- walking proudley for the men who can't.
