Santa House prepares for high winds

When it comes to Christmas, it’s hard to find someone that loves Santa Claus more than Wayne Smith.

At his home on Southwestern Boulevard in University Park, he has over 500 Santa displays. “With the snowmen, once they’re all up and everything, about 740 total,” Smith said. Over the years, his lawn has become one of the most popular Christmas light displays in Dallas.

Smith keeps a close eye on the weather forecast and tries to be as prepared as possible.

With very high winds predicted in North Texas, he’s made sure all of his displays are staked or nailed securely, or tied tightly on trees. He even used braided steel aircraft cable as an extra layer of protection.

Normally, Smith puts up the original Big Tex’s head on display as well. He’s holding off until Saturday to display it because of the forecast.

Smith laughs, “I’ll be out here watching them.”
