DALLAS -- A 28-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at the Broadmoor Apartments in the Redbird area of Southern Dallas on Wednesday morning.

The medical examiner was called to the apartment after police said a friend found their bodies just before 1 a.m.

A source tells WFAA that police believe their deaths were caused by the mother, who shot her daughter and then herself.

Investigators spent nearly three hours at the scene and many details are still unknown. However, an officer did say at the time that the neighborhood was safe and officers weren't looking for a suspect.

Several family members and friends were visibly upset in the parking lot while the investigation was taking place.

The neighbor in the unit below the victims told WFAA that the mother and daughter moved in about a month ago. She says she heard a male voice and people arguing a lot.

At about 12:30 a.m. she heard the child screaming, but about a half hour later everything was quiet. The neighbor said she didn't hear the gunshots.

The mother and child's names haven't been released.
