TSA agents at DFW Airport get a helping hand from the Islamic Center of Frisco

The Islamic Center of Frisco delivered 120 gift cards to DFW International Airport. Members thanked TSA employees for working hard during the government shutdown.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Even with the government shutdown, our lives still go on. Thousands travel to DFW Airport, and TSA employees continue to work. The difference is workers haven't received a paycheck for 34 days.

The Islamic Center of Frisco wants the TSA to know their work is not going unnoticed. Members hand-delivered gift cards, snacks and donuts to Terminal D.

"They are protecting us," said Sadaf Haq, of the Islamic Center. "They are not only protecting the city, they are protecting the country."

The two words, "thank you", were exchanged back and forth. While the two groups have never met, they are thankful to have each other.

One hundred and twenty cards, while it seems like a healthy number, was not enough. Within a few minutes, it was gone.

"It was heartbreaking," Haq said.

The Islamic Center of Frisco promised to help TSA employees as long as the shutdown continues.

Shakil Vawda, Imam of the Islamic Center of Frisco, was also there handing out gift cards.

"I hope it counts," he said, "and I hope things get better for them in the near future."

In a divisive time, the members of the Islamic Center wants to bring people together.

"With hardship, comes ease," Youth Director Mubeen Kamani said. "When you go through a toughness after a rainy day, the sun will come out."

In the meantime, they plan to support the community in need.
