DUNCANVILLE Residents who've lived near South Alexander Avenue in Duncanville for 20 years are upset to see 75-year-old trees being cut down.
The city said the owner of a strip mall doesn't want the hassle of maintaining the trees in the future.
Tree-cutting services began taking out trees by the dozens on Tuesday. The City of Duncanville said the owner of strip mall is legally in the right to clear out the trees, since he owns the property.
Residents said the trees block the view of the Minyard grocery store parking lot, and the greenery they see now is much more visually appealing.
So the neighborhood is pleading with the developer to leave behind as many trees as possible.
It seems like such a gross over-compensation, said neighbor Royce Milam. We need [alley height] clearance for one limb, [then] take out one limb. Leave what the property owners on this side have been happy with.
It is unclear how many trees will be cut down; News 8 was unable to contact the property owner on Tuesday.
Most of the trees are drought-resistant Ash and Hackberry trees.
