Mesquite firefighters are helping to “Spread the Love” in their city.
Firefighters from all seven Mesquite fire stations Tuesday donated and delivered more than 200 jars of peanut butter and jelly to food pantries in Mesquite.
The donation is part of Mesquite’s “Spread the Love” campaign, which encourages donations to help feed hungry children when school is out.
Both peanut butter and jelly are items that are in high demand during the summer months.
Officials say many youngsters rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year.
But during the summer, they can face going hungry if it weren’t for donations to food pantries.
The campaign supports two food pantries--Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services.
Donations will be accepted at “Spread the Love” receptacles at several Mesquite city facilities and at special events thru the summer.
