Door-to-door roofing solicitor shot outside Frisco home

A 44-year-old door-to-door roofing solicitor was shot outside a Frisco home Monday afternoon.

FRISCO -- A 44-year-old door-to-door roofing solicitor was shot outside a Frisco home Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to a house in the 6000 block of Larkspur Lane where they took a 45-year-old adult male shooter into custody without incident. The shooter has been identified as Radu Chivu from Frisco.

A preliminary investigation by detectives says that the Chivu confronted the victim outside his home. A no soliciting sign was observed outside of the Chivu's home during the initial investigation.

Ginny Schwartz is still in shock. She was on her way out Monday afternoon when she saw Frisco Police up the street. “It’s a little bit scary,” she said. “Just really, really, sad.”

The 44-year-old man who was shot was taken to an undisclosed hospital. Frisco police have also yet to release his name. According to police, the victim did not have a permit from the city as one is not currently required to distribute commercial handbills.

“Immediately I thought, ‘That poor man. It has to be that same man because I didn’t see anybody else come around,’” she said.

Ginny Schwartz’s husband, Jonathan, was also home at the time of the shooting. “Coming from Brooklyn and living in Texas now, even that was shocking,” he said.

Although neither heard or saw the shooting, the couple said there has been an uptick in solicitations following the recent severe weather.

“We’re getting 6 phone calls a day it feels like, different people wanting to come up, check the roof, couple people knocking on the door,” Jonathan Schwartz said. “This gentleman does have signs all over the place, no trespassing on both sides, no soliciting, he doesn’t want to be bothered.”

Chivu is currently being held in the Frisco Jail and is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

There is no threat to public safety at this time and detectives continue to investigate the cause of the shooting.

There are several no trespassing signs and a no soliciting sign outside the shooter’s home. No one came to the door when WFAA knocked.
