LEWISVILLE -- The body of a swimmer who disappeared over the weekend has been recovered from Lake Lewisville.

Police say the 28-year-old man was in a boat with his girlfriend and her daughter Sunday evening when he decided to jump out and swim in the lake northeast of the popular Sneaky Pete's restaurant.

Captain Game Warden Cliff Swofford with Texas Parks and Wildlife says the man, who hasn't been identified, showed signs of distress. His girlfriend tried to throw him a life jacket, but the wind blew the boat further and further away from him.

She then jumped into the water herself but couldn't find him. She was eventually picked up by fisherman in the area.

The Denton County Sheriff's Department, Texas Game Warden, Lewisville Fire Department and Army Corps of Engineers searched the lake for the swimmer's body for two days.

He was found at about 7 p.m. Tuesday near Oakland Park.
