DALLAS — A deadly crash shut down I-30 near Ferguson Road when a pedestrian crossing the highway was hit and killed early Monday morning.

Officials were called out to the scene shortly before 2 a.m. to the westbound lanes, just east of the Dolphin exit. Officials found a person lying on the road who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Dallas County Sheriff's Office, a driver of a white Honda Accord heading westbound saw a person trying to cross the highway. The driver tried to brake but ultimately hit the pedestrian who was thrown about 50 feet, officials said. Another driver who saw the incident tried to swerve away and hit concrete barriers.

The driver of a white Honda stayed behind. A third driver tried to position her car to prevent him from getting hit, but an 18-wheeler drove past, hitting him once again. The driver of the 18-wheeler is unknown, and no description for the 18-wheeler was available at this time.

The Medical Examiner also responded to the scene. Lanes reopened at about 6 a.m.
