Dallas detention officer killed in crash on Spur 408

A detention officer with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office was killed in a crash Wednesday night.

DALLAS -- A detention officer with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office was killed in a crash Wednesday night.

Dallas police are investigating the incident, which took place at about 10:30 p.m. on Spur 408 near West Illinois Avenue. Officials say a car was heading northbound when the driver lost control and hit a pillar underneath a bridge.

A sergeant with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WFAA that the victim was a detention officer with the Dallas County jail.

He's been identified as 51-year-old Kenneth Luckey.

Several Dallas County sheriff's deputies were spotted at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says Luckey had been with the department for 20 years.

"We ask that you keep his family, friends, and Sheriff’s Department co-workers in your prayers," the department said.
