PLANO -- Some cattiness sprouting from Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Dallas" has inspired some in Plano to stand up for their city.
On the reality show, housewife LeeAnne Locken said, "It's a little Plano in here," in response to the apparent indifference or unclassy attitude shown by two other housewives at a formal event.
Plano's Marketing Director Shannah Hayley didn't know about the comment made in the premiere until a blogger sent a meme to her on Twitter showing Locken and the phrase.
Hayley responded to that Twitter post in kind with a post of her own: Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" video.
"This is a reality TV show," Hayley said. "Silliness deserves a silly response."
That response got social media play throughout the week.
Hayley say the city gained more than a 1,000 new Twitter followers after the mention and subsequent response. She said other Plano citizens were taking offense to the phrase.
"It was fun to see people take pride in our city," she said.
Hayley tells News 8 that LeeAnne Locken is very familiar with the City of Plano. Locken has hosted several Plano television shows, like "Eye on Plano" some years back.
"We have deep affection for her. I didn't take offense to the comment," Hayley said, "but I just figured lets just have a sense of humor about it."
The marketing director knew there had to be an opportunity to capitalize on the phrase and the conversation that ensued. So she decided to use her own time design a shirt with the phrase -- and a twist:
"It's a little Plano in here. And we like it."
Hayley says she's just a private citizen who wanted to showcase the pride she has for the city. She says neither she or the city take any money for any shirts or sweatshirts purchased -- just Spreadshirt, the manufacturer.
There are shirts and sweatshirts available ranging from $18-$42. You can find them here.
