An 11-year-old boy died Monday after he was impaled on an iron fence at an apartment complex, according to police.
Fort Worth 5th grader, Jean Mwenge was one of "several juveniles" who climbed a fence and entered the locked pool area of the Ladera Palms Apartments in south Fort Worth, police said.
When the group was told by security to leave the pool area, they scattered and ran away, climbing back over the fence.
Mwenge "possibly lost his footing and was accidentally impaled by the iron fence," according to a statement from police.
He was taken to Cook Children's and was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m., police said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office has yet to declare a cause of death.
