Mosquitoes in Coppell test positive for West Nile Virus, DCHHS says

COPPELL, Texas —

Mosquito samples from traps collected in the 75019 ZIP code of Coppell have tested positive for West Nile Virus, Dallas County Health and Human Services said Monday.

DCHHS will be ground spraying the area Monday night from 9 p.m. to Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. and Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to Wednesday at 5 a.m.

No cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Dallas County this year, but 17 mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to the DCHSS website

The DCHSS gave these following tips to reduce exposure to mosquitoes: 

  • DEET All day, Every day: Whenever outside, use insect repellents that have the active ingredient DEET or other EPA-registered repellents and always follow label instructions.
  • Dress: Wear long, loose, and light-colored clothing outside.
  • Drain: Drain or treat all standing water in and around your home or workplace where mosquitoes could lay eggs.
  • All Day long: Dawn, Day and Dusk -Limit your time outdoors mosquitos are active anytime day or night.
