Principal: Threats against The Colony High School under investigation

THE COLONY — Classes were underway as normal Monday after officials reported threats were made toward The Colony High School late Sunday night.

THE COLONY — Classes were underway as normal Monday after officials reported threats were made toward The Colony High School late Sunday night.

The threat was spurred by a fight off campus, according to police.

"One of the students made apparently the allegations that they were going to come to the school and shoot people," said Officer Kyle Koiner, with The Colony Police Department.

As of late Monday morning, police reported no signs of a threat. Authorities spent Sunday night interviewing students allegedly involved.

A police presence was on the campus, with patrol vehicles circling the school.

"We know our students must feel safe in our schools," read a statement from the Lewisville Independent School District. "And the quick action taken by the police and the Lewisville ISD safety and security team helped ensure the safety of our campus."

News of the potential threat spurred concern among parents and students. However, others expressed confidence with the district.

"I feel like if it really was a real threat or something bad was going to happen, they wouldn’t let us come," said Bethany Williams, a senior at the school. "They would make sure we’re safe."

Police and school leaders stressed safety is their top priority.

The student who allegedly made the threat wasn't in class Monday. Police say he was already suspended for a reason not related to the threat.

Read note sent to parents from Principal Tim Baxte below:

Late Sunday night, police and school officials received information regarding threats made against The Colony High School. Suspects are currently under investigation. I appreciate the quick action taken by the police and the Lewisville ISD safety and security team to keep our students and staff safe once reports of the threats surfaced.

The district will send updates if additional information becomes available. Students should report to class on their normal schedule on Monday, April 4.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff at TCHS.
