RICHARDSON — More than 100 boys gathered at the University of Texas at Dallas Saturday for the sixth African American Male Academic Bowl.
About 36 teams from schools across Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin competed in the "Jeopardy"-style tournament.
The young men in 4th through 8th grades worked together to tackle questions in math, sciences, art and history.
WFAA reporter Demond Fernandez moderated a breakout panel discussion on issues impacting black males.
This is the sixth year for the Academic Bowl and organizers say it gets larger each year. It is aimed at promoting academic achievement in black elementary and middle school students.
