Donations pour in for Parker County family devastated by house fire

PARKER COUNTY, Texas--Donations continue to grow for a family of eight devastated by a raging house fire last week.

Friends and neighbors of the Leonard and McDaniel family have raised around $20,000 through a Go Fund Me page.

Billy Ellis and his wife Chelsea, friends and neighbors of the family, say almost another 20 grand is in a separate account at a local bank in Azle.

"The generosity of the general public toward this family is unbelievable," said Billy.

Piles of donated clothes, personal items, and much more are being collected at the Ellis household.

The family says they knew the entire community would step up when the Thursday morning blaze tore through the Leonard's home on Kalinga Drive.

"They're just as important to us, as everybody else in this neighborhood, as our own family," said Billy.

Jeff, the father, remains hospitalized in critical condition, as does the family's four-year-old son.

Sarah, the mom, is still in the hospital too, although Billy said she hopes to get out soon to go watch over her husband and boy.

Dramatic body camera video from a Parker County deputy shows the incredible rescues that helped save the family.

Aside from the Go Fund me page, donations are also being accepted at Herring Bank in Azle under an account set up for the family.

Billy said they're hopeful a contractor or mobile home manufacturer may be able to eventually help the family, as they had no active home insurance.

"We knew we had to do something [to help]" he said. "They lost everything."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
