Mom arrested after baby found in Hurst dumpster

Authorities are investigating how a baby ended up in a dumpster after the mother gave birth to the child inside a Hurst restaurant.

HURST, Texas -- Authorities have arrested a woman they say left a baby in a dumpster last month after giving birth inside a Hurst restaurant.

Monday morning police announced the baby's mother, 28-year-old Alyssa Hazel Baker, had been charged with attempted capital murder.

They say she gave birth to the baby at her workplace, the Souper Salad restaurant on Melbourne Road, and then placed the baby in a dumpster.

Both were taken to the hospital in good health at the time, but an investigation conducted by police led to an arrest warrant. Baker was taken into custody without incident, and her bond has been set at $50,000.

WFAA reached out to Souper Salad's corporate offices in Dallas for comment, but have not heard back yet.
